Walk in the Port of Mahon
Which way will you go?
Did you know that the Port of Mahon is the second largest natural harbor in the world? This harbor is composed of several coves:
Embark on a captivating walk along the harbor. Departure from Moll Llevant 96. Walk along the picturesque harbor towards the mouth. Return via Cala Teulera, with its crystal clear waters. Conclude your return trip at Moll Llevant.
Corb Cove
It is a small cove with buildings around and a pier under construction, with easy access from land. Its location, very close to the town center, ensures the proximity of numerous bars and restaurants located along the pedestrian pier.
Cales Fonts
Small fishing port of Es Castell, this cove has become one of the leisure centers of the island, and an obligatory stop for those tourists who wish to enjoy a pleasant meal at the edge of the port, with its spectacular views on the horizon and its beautiful sunsets. Whatever the time you go to Cales Fonts, you will always be able to enjoy it: if you decide to visit in the morning, you will see people bathing in the clean waters of the port of Mahon, in the afternoon you will find some fishermen mooring their boats and supplying the restaurants with fresh fish that will then be served to their guests and, at night, the lights of the village that is situated on the cliff and the restaurants that are located on the pier, will be reflected in the waters of the port, among the small boats resting on the pier…An idyllic setting and a way to enjoy all the flavor of the Mediterranean in a simple way thanks to its ease of access, its service options, its street markets, the multitude of stores and restaurants available, and all the options that this small port has to offer.
Rata Cove or Ratolí Cove
It is on the opposite side of the promenade, the beach is beautiful, and there are spectacular views of Mahón and its harbor.
The King’s Island or Illa del Rei
It is, as its name suggests, a small island located inside the port of Mahon, which can only be reached by boat.
The island, also called The Bloody Island (so called because of the activity of its hospital during the British rule), is located in the center of the port, between Mahon and Es Castell. It is a place that can be very enriching as a visit to it will allow you to learn more about the history of Menorca and its evolution over the centuries. On the island, at an architectural level, two constructions stand out: on the one hand, the paleochristian basilica and, on the other hand, an old hospital (which was first British and then converted into a Spanish military hospital). For those who wish to visit this small historical redoubt, there is a floating dock on the west side for boats arriving to the island and, bordering the north shore, we come across the Predio de San Antonio (or l’escull de Sant Antoni), formed by rocks that outcrop and can be dangerous if you do not take into account the shallow depth of the places where they are located.
Cala Llonga
Teulera Cove
Although they are difficult to find, there are still places on the island of Menorca that go unnoticed by tourists and, even in high season, it is possible to enjoy them without having to fight for available space. Cala Teulera is one of those places.
It is a cove in the interior of the port of Mahón, halfway between the military museum of La Mola and the island of Lazareto (the small islet where the sailors who docked on the coast were quarantined to ensure that they were not carriers of contagious diseases that could decimate the population of the region). Cala Teulera is crowned by a defense tower built in the times of British rule and has two small sandy beaches where, in the past, the soldiers of La Mola used to refresh themselves.
A charming space in which to enjoy and relax, away from the bustle and crowds (very common on the island during the summer season).
